Political History of the World
Western World
It has evolved today via control historically by Kings and Queens and Monarchs who ruled the peoples of various lands under a feudal system.
The Magna Carta and more power to parliaments and less power to Monarchs followed in the second millennium.
People power through the parliaments was the driving force to democracy as we know it today.
However, democracy is weakening massively in the third millennium. Natural political leaders are being replaced by career politicians and politicians aligned to political parties who represent the interests of a relatively small number of the rich and powerful citizens of western countries today.
In my lifetime since 1950, this “massive fall away in natural political leaders” has evolved contemporaneously with “advanced capitalism”.
In the 1950’s/1970’s we saw the development of the motor car as an essential item for all citizens and a new invention of the television and the aeroplane.
In the 1980’s/1990’s the television and the aeroplane became essential everyday items and the computer was invented and became a business tool from the late 1970’s.
In the 1980’s it became an “essential business tool” and in the 1990’s the mobile phone was developed. By 2000 the computer and mobile phone had become essential items for both business and the individual.
The third millennium has seen other “offshoot” developments from the computer and mobile phone – products such as social media platforms for individuals and algorithms and websites for businesses to sell goods and services.
The social and economic changes have continued – life is faster every year, and more technological inventions are being introduced into our business and individual daily lives every year.
But the political systems of the western world have stood still. The basic systems were installed over various times between 1850 and 1945. After the second world war the leaders of that time created the United Nations with an objective no doubt that it would be the vehicle to resolve all disputes between any two or more countries. The United Nations would act as the arbitrator and policeman of the world. With the objective that there would never be another world war.
America with its wealth and power created by controlling world trade and currencies has usurped this policeman power from the United Nations.
And now we have on our doorstep a few massively wealthy people who control world trade and how we think and act as individuals and interact with other peoples of the world. Sadly, these few people are not natural political leaders but economic egotists who want more money and power and status.
Politics is and always has been and will be the art of compromise and compassion at any time.
Those essential ingredients are missing from todays world leaders at a time when they are most needed.
It is essential for the world to move towards and be a “one world” this century.
If we continue to live in conflict and not with consensus then the world as we know it today will be in big trouble very soon.
AI needs common rules and regulations from the outset and that requires a “one world” created by a new restructured United Nations which accepts all political systems and religions in the world and which represents all nations and political systems with agreed protocols and rules to resolve disputes.
In Australia our political system has also remained unchanged. It needs to change. It needs a new constitution to reflect social and economic attitudes in todays society and not as existed 125 years ago.
What was required by Prime Minister Albanese and his government at the beginning of its term in 2022 was not a referendum on a “devised” and poorly considered reform policy for Australian indigenous persons called “the Voice” but a referendum to rewrite a new constitution to reflect these and other social changes in our society. And make the day such document was legislated in parliament as our new national day.
In such a referendum other matters could also be considered including:
The abolition of State and Territory governments or a clear and absolute division of powers between State and National governments;
Any other matters of national interest pertaining to the same subject matter including whether at the same time we become a republic.
Today it is essential that we either separate the joint powers under our current constitution between the States and National governments or vote to give exclusive power to the National government and abolish State and Territory governments and make such institutions administrative and advisory centres of the national government and do likewise with restructured municipal Councils in Australia.
I have a belief and faith in “people power”. Together ordinary people of the world can unite as one and demand political change to accept all political systems and religious beliefs that exist in the world today and for the people of the world to live with love and respect towards each other. And for every person to be better educated and thereby provide a better quality of life for every person on planet earth regardless of race, religion, colour, gender or socio/economic standing – a “one world” at least in how we relate to and with other people and work towards improving the standard of living for all people in the world today this just a select few.
Live in peace with no wars in 2025 and beyond and live with love and respect, not hatred and jealousy and revenge. Together as one we can achieve a better world for all.
In conflict people of the world become more divided and social and financial inequality increases significantly. Conflict will threaten civilisation on planet earth this century with the rollout of AI and the need to do away with fossil fuels.
The future capitalist world is lived with lower growth (because future economic and social development largely evolves from wars) and with more people living on a social wage (a government benefit of some kind) but all people living with a strong and educated mindset to adjust and adapt and live happily and contentedly.
